Frequently Asked Questions
My jewellery has lost its finish and become shiny: what can i do?
Our jewellery has a satin finish that can be made shinier through wear. The satin finish can be restored by using the cleaning instructions below in the section: How Do I Clean My Matsu Jewellery?
How do I clean my Matsu Jewellery?
Do NOT use a polishing cloth. Matsu's jewellery has a satin finish - a finishing cloth will change the finish to shiny. We find it best to use baking soda and water. Dip the to piece to be cleaned in water. Take some dry baking soda, and work it into the piece with your fingers (the soda works with the droplets of water on the piece to make a paste). Avoid scrubbing directly on a pearl. However, don't panic if a little baking soda touches the pearl, just dust it off; don't rub it in. For hard to reach places on jewellery, dampen a toothbrush, and add some soda then use this to scrub. Rinse the scrubbed jewellery under lukewarm water to remove the baking soda. Any holes in the piece (ie. the underside of a setting) need extra care to make sure all the traces of baking soda are removed. Any soda not removed from the piece will leave a white film or a clump that will harden, and become extremely difficult to remove.
